HOCKEY LAUNCHES NEW SCHOOL LEAVERS GUIDE AS YEAR 12 STUDENTS HEAD TOWARDS FINISHING LINE

22nd July 2009

Member for North Sydney, Joe Hockey MP, today launched a new School Leavers Guide for students on the lower north shore.

Mr Hockey said that he had prepared the guide to assist students as they make the transition from school into the workforce or higher education.

“This can be a time of great change for students as they leave behind the school environment they have known for 13 years and enter the next stage of their lives," Mr Hockey said.

“I still remember the excitement but also some of the trepidation of finishing year 12.

“It is important for students to know that there is government and community support available to make their journey easier.

“We have therefore produced a comprehensive guide of services and support available to students as they leave year 12."

Mr Hockey said that the guide covered a range of areas including financial support for students, services provided by the government to help students choose a career or a university course and information on TAFE options.

“The guide has been designed to be easy to read and to point year 12 students in the right direction if they need more information or assistance."

Mr Hockey said that the Guide will be distributed to local schools and was also available from his office.

Students or parents can obtain a copy by ringing Mr Hockey’s office on 9929 9822.
