Read the Full ArticleI refer to the Treasurer’s claims on Fairfax radio this morning that I said yesterday the Coalition’s proposal to guarantee loans in the commercial and residential mortgage-backed securities market would commit the Government to $60 billion in new debt[1].
At no stage have I made statements committing the Coalition to $60 billion of additional debt.
The Rudd Government is fond of plucking numbers out of the air in apparent support of their economic policies.
Now Wayne Swan is quoting numbers in regards to Coalition policies with no explanation of where these numbers have come from.
Our numerous calls to the Treasurer to release details of modelling or assumptions made to back up his claims have gone unanswered.
Wayne Swan must immediately explain how he has come up with this fantasy figure or admit that his criticism has fallen flat with this false claim.
