Joe Honour's Local Servicemen

Recently, Joe had the pleasure of welcoming local servicemen and women to his office to present them with the Australian Defence Medal (ADM). 

The ADM is presented to all those who have served in the Army, Navy, or Air Force since the end of the Second World War.

Joe Cupcakes

Joe visited Lane Cove Public School to open a new covered outdoor learning area that was constructed with a $50,000 grant from the Howard government.

To express their appreciation, the parents arranged for a special surprise for Joe - cupcakes emblazoned with Joe's face. On his way to lunch at the Montiefore Retirement Village in Hunters Hill, Joe dropped one off at his son Xavier's playgroup.  Apparently Xavier was a little perturbed about eating something with dad's face on it, but the thought of a tastey cupcake eventually won him over!

Saving Graythwaite

Joe Hockey annouced the Coalition government's commitment to save Graythwaite through a $25 million action plan.

Australian Hearing - Telscreen Launch

The Hon. Joe Hockey MP launched Australian Hearing's Telscreen service at Kamilaroi Retirement Centre Lane Cove, on 10 October 2007. 

Telscreen is Australian Hearing's new national telephone service that allows Australian's to take a free hearing screening over the phone, any time, anywhere in Australia.

North Sydney Community Awards 2007

The North Sydney Community Awards were held on Friday 21 September to recognise and say thank you to the many volunteers and community organisations that work to make our community a better place. 

APEC

As a part of the APEC Forum, Joe Hockey welcomed the President of Chile, Her Excellency Michelle Bachelet, to Sydney this morning.  President Bachelet is Chile's first female president and was elected in 2006.  Her father was an Air Force General who died in jail following the Pinochet coup.  President Bachelet and her mother fled to Australia (Sydney) where she lived briefly in 1975.

Mr Hockey was also able to meet with the President of Peru, His Excellency Alan García. 

Opening Pitch

Joe Hockey offically opened the North Sydney Junior 2007-2008 Baseball Season when he threw the ceremonial first patch at the clubs Try-baseball morning on Sunday August 4.

Old hands and likely new recruits enjoyed a social mornng of skils, games and BBQ sausages at Flat Rock Reserve, Willoughby .

Club President John Dumay said he thought Joe had quite a good arm. "I asked Joe if he would consider playing for one of our Senior Teams",  "Our club has players from a wide range of backgrounds and ages. Right now, we dont have an MP, so we would be delighted if he took up the offer"


Harry Kewell - Healthy Active Ambassador

 Member for North Sydney, Joe Hockey MP, today thanked Harry Kewell for agreeing to visit North Sydney and to talk with students at Marist College about his role as a Healthy Active Ambassador for the Australian government.

St Aloysius - Passing Out Parade

Mr Hockey was recently invited back to St Aloysius College, his old High School, to act as the Returning Officer for the annual Passing Out Parade.  Joe had a wonderful time being back amongst old friends and teachers, and was thoroughly impressed with his inspection of the cadets.  

Harbour Bridge Photographic Competition

On June 7, 2007 Joe Hockey MP announced the winners of the North Sydney Harbour Bridge Photographich Competition. 

Joe felt that the range of entries submitted illustrated that the Bridge still continues to inspire local residents today .

Australian Defence Force Medals

Joe Hockey presented a series of Australian Defence Force Medals and Certificates of Appreciation at a morning tea for former Australian Defence Force personnel on Monday 4 June 2007 in his North Sydney office.

“I really love presenting these medals and certificates because it gives me the opportunity to acknowledge personally the outstanding contribution to our proud military history made by Australian men and women in uniform, and to do it in a very relaxed atmosphere," Mr Hockey said.

Walk To School

On Monday 12 March, Joe Hockey MP officially launched the Walk To School initiative at Boronia Park Public School.

Students, parents and teachers turned out early for a healthy breakfast followed by a short presentation from Minister Hockey and Principal Marilyn Torr.

The Walk to School Initiative will bring an awareness to young people about the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and over the coming year students will walk thousands of kilometres to offset a significant level of emissions.   Hunters Hill Council has generously supported the project and will donate trees to the school in recognition of the student's commitment to the scheme.

Lane Cove Tunnel Demonstration

On Sunday 11 March, Joe Hockey MP joined over a thousand local North Shore residents who marched to oppose the State governments decision not to filter the Lane Cove Tunnel. 

The day was a great success and reflected strong opposition within the local community towards the actions of the Iemma government.
